A prodigious and majestic palace, once inhabited by the Sanseverino family, is now home to public gallery and cultural exhibitions.
On the area now taken up by the Palace there was once a fortress built by Azzo da Correggio, later made into an elegant residence under Barbara Sanseverino. The castle, together with the family's properties, was then confiscated by the Farnese family. Some important restoration works were made after Ranuccio II Farnese's marriage with Princess Margherita Violante Savoy, who transformed the castle giving to it its present look. In 1807 it was declared "Imperial Palace" and had some new restoration works that went on also when the dukedom, after the Congress of Vienna, was given to Napoleon's wife, Mary Louise of Austria. After the Italian Union, it was bought by the Amministrazione Provinciale di Parma. www.arganteviaggi.it
